great uploads ... the problem is that 99 percent of your movies are already here ... any reason why you upload them a second time ??

Yeah - Around 75% are already here although in a different format (some worse, some better, some bigger, some smaller) - I prefer to have avi/divx (700 Mb) downloads versions available for download on my site as well as available for viewers or downloaders here.

What's special about 700 megabytes?

I guess it fits on all discs. Overall its what has been requested for the most.

I know that a lot of people want to put a movie on a CD, but DVDs in bulk can be had for as little as 25 cents.

I have seen people split a long movie into 2 files, each 700 megabytes, so that the film could be put on 2 CDs. It seems to me that it would make a lot more sense in that case to put a single 1400-megabyte file on one DVD.

Looking at it in terms of download time, it's understandable that people with slow connections want a movie of average duration to be no larger than about 700 megabytes; a good encoding of that size in a good codec will have little obvious video degradation.

Is the divx codec better than xvid, mpeg4, and H264? Any good player program will handle all of them, and H264 is probably the most efficient in terms of the ratio of quality to file-size. (Audio/video synch problems seem to be more common with mp4 for some reason.)

I don't disagree - any movie I personally download to watch of larger size I add a trailer at the beginning and make a DVD but with the 700 mb avi it's a simple format, standard size - probably a matter of 6 - 12 months before people go... 700 mb? but why? and really not know - in time many of these formats will completely go way of the cassette tape (though I still have some good mixes) - I say to each their own. I should probably have torrents on my site, i don't know - whats next?

I agree with the 700mb Xvid/DivX format there is no noticeable differences on the quality with old movies it´s always a question of the source you´r working with ...
Although i put those AVI files on DVD anyway for two reason ... Storage space and the playback noise on stand alone DVD/DivX Players
A DVD simply spins less than a CD with high speed vibration and noise on playback :)

Well, maybe, but at least his copy of THE EYE CREATURES is different from mine in the fact that his is DIVX and mine is MKV, so at least there are some different file formats available.

The First of The Few u/l is a nice print. It's difficult to find good copies of the original British version. I have a print of the US version "Spitfire" which is cut to 80 mins.

Shouldn't be so hard to find now that Movie Powder put this one up, wouldn't you say? Oh, yeah, Movie Powder, are you the one who put up MARK OF THE HAWK? Last time I looked, I couldn't find any dowloadable movie files on the details page. If that was yours, could you see about fixing that issue? If it wasn't yours, forget I said anything.

FreeBmovies put that up. I would like to get my hands on that movie if it's indeed Public Domain.

Yes it's up as well - Generally the push we've had has been for 700 MB avi's to download - In some cases the quality of the larger mpg file is better for streaming and the avi's for downloading or in some cases it's the opposite - it varies - at any rate... for Horror Express the version I put I believe is the same recording as one of the others (except avi and the size) some of the films are completely different.

I've found that putting up 700MB DivX (avi) has been relatively trouble-free for me. Still takes a while for the process to complete itself but that's the way it goes.

I've had pretty good luck uploading - Seems to work for me about 90% of the time on the first try. Still slow with the moving to the right category though. Oh well.
